36th Chamber of Birthday

I turned 36 years old yesterday. I’m shocked and embarrassed by the well-wishing and insanely good presents I got this year. I try to stay low-key about my birthday for various reasons but other people decided to play dirty pool. One of my best friends got me a flat monitor that my eyes are still trying to get used to. Everything is so fresh and so clean-clean. One of my sisters even bought me a best German Chocolate cake, possibly my favorite cake of all cakes. Thanks again to everyone who got me a gift or said Happy Birthday. Damn you for making me smile about my birthday!

I only had two plans for this birthday. One of those plans: Root Beer and Pizza. Once again, even with lower-grade sources of both items, the combination managed to be the sure shot. The other plan was to draw something special. Since it was my 36th birthday and I’m a martial arts fan, there was only one choice: Gordon Liu as San-Te from the classic film “the 36th Chamber of Shaolin” from Shaw Studios. I’m still horrible at likenesses but it was still fun to draw this. It was a quick pic drawn after working the last work day of a week where I barely slept so I’m sure it could have been a lot worse.

These are some of the things that I’m thankful for:

1.) Time off from the day job so my aching legs could get some rest.

2.) Amazon.com for having a sale filled with magnificent awesomes so I could get two of the main DVD sets on my want list: Aquaman and Boondocks Season 2.

3.) Finishing a sprite edit animation that will be used for someone’s MUGEN character. Oddly enough, this means that I’ve done fight stance anim work for two different versions of this same character.

4.) Incredibly moist turkey that is perfect for sleep-inducing sammitches.

5.) To Sci-Fi for showing the Stand again for the 484th time this damned year. I’m sure they’ll shoot for an even 700 before the New Years Twilight Zone Marathon hits.

6.) To Cartoon Network for not showing the Brave and the Bold on the first Friday that I was home and guaranteed to see it. Like I won’t buy the DVDs anyway.

Amazon went sale-crazy (as usual) and here’s some stuff that I dug:

The Adventures of Aquaman – The Complete Collection (DC Comics Classic Collection) for $14!

A lot of the WB-owned Filmation and Hanna-Barbera cartoons are on sale for $14 including the original Space Ghost/Dino Boy show and Birdman and the Galaxy Trio.

Some Filmation sets are only $12 like Blackstar and Space Sentinels

Boondocks: Complete Second Season for $16
AW HELL YEAH. The regular price was always too steep for me but the $16 is even lower than what I was hoping for. This set includes the two episodes never shown on Cartoon Network.

Random: Midnight Marauders, Dr. Light

Newsarama reports that talentedly ill artist LeSean Thomas has an artbook out now called Midnight Marauders. While I’m too broke to get it right now, it’s on my “I gotta get it, I got-got to get it” list. For one thing, I dig his art and design work (especially on the Boondocks animated series). On top of that, the name of the book and the cover speaks to the Hip-Hop geek in me by giving dap to one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever.

So they finally killed off “that guy” in DC Comics that did… I can’t even type it. You know what he did in Identity Crisis. To be fair, that’s all they could really do with him after that book because that’s all he’s known for now. I haven’t read Identity Crisis yet so I’m not dissing it. I’m just saying that’s pretty much a textbook way to poison a character for all eternity. Oddly enough, I forget about all that when he shows up in Tiny Titans. Tiny Titans is magic. Even Jericho is cool in Tiny Titans and that’s the definition of magic.

Remember that project that I keep hinting at? I’ve begged, er, had some people try it out and it works for most part. After I clean up some stuff, there’ll be a post in a week or two with the demo. Be Afraid. Or not. It’s your call.

Random: DC Super Heroes DVD, Gaming and more

I got the DC Super Heroes: the Filmation Adventures DVD set on August 15th of the year 2008. I haven’t seen some of these cartoons since I was a little young’un in the mid 1970′s. These cartoons are fun from pillar to post and I was surprised by a few things in the set. For one, a very famous DC Comics hero just blatantly kills somebody and says what amounts to, “Well, so much for that. Let’s bounce.” The best part is that I have friends who aren’t uppity about comics and cartoons so we could just watch some of the segments for the craziness that they are instead of stroking our goatees and claiming every 3 minutes that we’re watching them “ironically” (also known as goat-stroking) or some such crap. Besides, I’m the only one with a goatee and one of the people there was female. BUT STILL. This will replace the ones I taped from that DC mish-mash show that aired USA Cartoon Express and Cartoon Network years ago. I have an unfinished post all about this set and I’ll try to have it finished soon.

25 reasons gamers annoy non-gamers

As a sad, sad shell of a man that has spent the last 8 years working on a old-school gaming site and draws fan art of characters that really just look like a mess of pixels, I still agree with most of those. Number 8 is just a truth that most people don’t want to accept.

I keep talking about secret projects that I do on the side if all the random stuff that I do regularly. One project isn’t as much a project as it is a skill that I want to develop. I’m getting better at it and I’ll have something to show off in a few weeks. For now, here’s the only so-called clue you get:

Not that anybody will really try to guess, but I have nothing better to do. No, I didn’t notice how creepy that looks until I posted a larger version of it.

ScrollBoss 8th Anniversary

Damn, I’m tired. Ever since I got the NewOld Computer, a lot of my free time has gone towards trying to get it up to code or trying to cook up content for ScrollBoss’ 8th Anniversary update. Most of the work was behind-the-scenes stuff that nobody sees and couldn’t give two poots about. That’s why I’m going to tell you about them right now. Just kiddin’. Instead, here’s my Top Five List of things that I wish that I didn’t have to do for the update:

5.) Update at least 70 PHP pages with new side menu INCLUDES knowing damn well I’ll have to go back and do the same for the headers that I didn’t have time to redesign thanks to item number 4.
4.) Have to wait until I could access the old Hard Drive’s version of ScrollBoss that had a lot of non-uploaded things. I still don’t have a lot of programs working yet including Beats of Rage.
3.) Make an entire font in vector only to accidentally delete it when sorting data between the two drives. Yes, I’m talking about the font in this earlier post. Luckily, the new version that I started looks a bit better as the letter A I used for the banner of the Game Index page easily beats the first one I did.
2.) Spend a ridiculous amount of time working on graphics that didn’t have to used:

1.) Continue to not show over 20 sprite edits that are far better than the latest ones I added to the site. By now, I know that showing them before they debut in the projects I made them for will mean that someone will shoehorn them into their own fan game in the most fuctarded way imaginable. I don’t need to see Blue Be, er, any secret sprites showing up in another hentai M.U.G.E.N. bonus stage.
